Wet Rooms & Wheelchair Accessible Showers
Hugely popular in other Countries, but like anything else the tide is turning at home here in Ireland, and over the next 5-10 years it is likely that Wet Rooms will overtake Level Access shower trays.
There are 2 main points to review when it comes to wet rooms.
Waterproofing…with most bathrooms being on the 1st floor, the fear has always been that it will leak or flood the room and everything below it. Installed properly this is not an issue – a decent tradesman will know what he has to do in terms of tanking the wet rooms showering area properly, and we will be more than happy to offer advice to you or your installer, and effectively remove those concerns.
Completely level entry…when the client may have to negotiate door thresholds and stairs before getting to the bathroom, why is it important to have a flush level entry in wet rooms as opposed to the 5mm lip that tends to come with Level Access shower trays?
Doesn’t really make sense, but the beauty of a wet room is that it gives back real estate. When the doors are folded against the wall – then it completely opens up the bathroom and gives much more space than was previously available…and it is this space that appeals to everyone, none more so than Occupational Therapists.
In the below scenario anti slip vinyl has been used – some consider that this gives a very clinical feel, and while it works well for care homes, hospitals and other multi user facilities – it might not be to the taste of most in their own home – by choosing nice mosaics or floor tiles – a very rich design can be achieved.
